Com essa e outras obras criadas por Niemeyer, Bras\u00edlia passou a ser reconhecida como \u00edcone do modernismo arquitet\u00f4nico brasileiro. Estranhamente, a disposi\u00e7\u00e3o das esculturas \u00e9 tr\u00eas \u00e0 esquerda e um a direita, uma assimetria que chama a aten\u00e7\u00e3o.\u00a0O acesso ao interior da igreja \u00e9 feito por uma rampa descendente, pois o piso da nave est\u00e1 abaixo do n\u00edvel do terreno. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entrando na igreja o visitante v\u00ea a nave sempre inundada de luz abundante que entra pelos vitrais que rodeiam os fieis em 360 graus.\u00a0Sem d\u00favida um contraste em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0s escuras catedrais do passado.\u00a0Olhando para cima vemos tr\u00eas grandes esculturas em duralum\u00ednio de anjos suspensas por finos cabos de a\u00e7o que nos d\u00e3o a impress\u00e3o de estarem voando. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luz abundante em tons variados, anjos voando, pilares que se erguem para o c\u00e9u, revestimentos em m\u00e1rmore branco, tapete vermelho; sem d\u00favida\u00a0um ambiente m\u00edstico que conduz \u00e0 medita\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A estrutura da catedral \u00e9 feita com 16 colunas curvas que homenageiam a matem\u00e1tica: o perfil \u00e9\u00a0hiperb\u00f3lico e a se\u00e7\u00e3o transversal parab\u00f3lica. As colunas\u00a0afinam na base dando a impress\u00e3o que tocam de leve o ch\u00e3o. O conjunto\u00a0de colunas forma um feixe que sugere m\u00e3os elevadas ao alto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Evolu\u00e7\u00e3o<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A catedral vem passando por modifica\u00e7\u00f5es ao longo do tempo. Originalmente, os pilares exibiam a cor natural do concreto aparente e os vitrais eram incolores. Na atualidade, os pilares foram pintados de branco e os&nbsp;vidros foram recobertos com um trabalho em&nbsp;fibra de vidro da artista pl\u00e1stica Marianne Peretti. Elementos novos foram acrescentados ao conjunto ao longo do tempo como o campan\u00e1rio, o espelho d&#8217;\u00e1gua e o batist\u00e9rio (local dos batismos) cuja forma lembra um ovo e funciona pr\u00f3ximo \u00e0 catedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c9 curioso ver como a Igreja Cat\u00f3lica, que preza por rigorosa tradi\u00e7\u00e3o em muitos pontos, \u00e9 aberta \u00e0 inova\u00e7\u00e3o quando o assunto \u00e9 a arquitetura de seus templos.
